Learning about blogging

Today we learnt about a number of important blogging skills:
  1. Keeping ourselves safe when using the internet -that we are not allowed to use our last name when doing anything on the internet, including our blog (Will). If you are going on the internet and you don't know what a link or button is for, you shouldn't click it (Charlie). If you get onto something that is not okay, get off it and tell an adult straight away (Tom, Laura, Lauren).
  2. Making comments on blog posts to give feedback -when you put your name to a comment, only use your first name (Jamie). Sign in first before making a comment (Amelia).
  3. Using labels -Always use your first name as a label when posting (Will, George). Labels help you to find things later.
  4. Inserting pictures into our blog posts -we started learning how to do this but will need quite a bit of practise (Rob).

My Pet

George's is favourite pet is a fish.

Changing Photos

One of the things we touched on today was how to change photos once they are in the computer. Here are a couple of shots of the very first ones we've done:

Photo Practise

Today we practised taking photos. Here is a slideshow showing you some of the best shots from our learning:

We came up with the start of a rubric for what makes a great photo which we will add to next time we work on photos:
  1. Focussed - not blurry
  2. Framed well - another word for this is composed well, ie. not chopped off
  3. Good lighting - not too light or dark depending on what you want, plus the flash isn't ruining the shot.
  4. Interesting subject - a photo of something that is actually worth taking a photo of.
Once we had our ideas for what makes a great photo, we broke into groups and focussed on the following areas:
  • Shooting great photos - in pairs or threes
  • Importing photos into iPhoto
  • Naming photos using iPhoto

Some of us learned how you can alter photos using iPhoto (Tom and company).
