Hi Team 17
My name is JD. I live with Sheena.
This is my sad and worried face. Normally I don't look so worried. Usually I'm a very happy and excited dog. Over the past few days I've been really scared. On Saturday and Sunday whenever the ground shook I thought the best thing to do was to run and hide in my kennel. I thought that would make everything stop. Yesterday and today every time there is a rumble I have to make sure I see my family. I bark a lot to let them know I'm scared. I feel a lot better when I'm with my family and they tell me it's going to be okay. The good part about the earthquake is that nobody has to go to school or work and they're all home together. I like when everyone is home. We also have a fish pond with 5 goldfish, but unfortunately one of them didn't survive the earthquake. I think he was terrified and he jumped out of the pond because we found him on the grass in the morning. It was sad. Do any of you have pets? How are they doing with all the shaking?
From,
JD
Hi JD I am Emily And Benjamin's Mum, Nicole. I am an animal behaviour consultant, that means I work with animals who are worried. You need to tell Sheena that it is ok for you to be scared and that you should stay close to your people over the next little while. If you are still unhappy tomorrow Sheena could go to the vet and ask if she can buy something called DAP, it can really help scared dogs feel OK (and it isn't a nasty pill). I hope you feel better soon. N.

Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteMy kennel is fine. I'm feeling SOOOOO much better now. I was playing outside today in the sun and was running around with my squeaky toy. At one point I was running so fast I didn't see where I was going and I ran straight into the fountain and got all wet!
