Gala Day Reflections

How did you feel about Gala Day?

We have had some time to defuse after our big event and have done some reflection in class.

If you take a bit of quiet time on your own, with no pressure to write answers into boxes, think about your success.

What went well with your PLANNING AND PROCESS?

What might your change for next time about your about your PLANNING and PROCESS leading UP TO the Gala Day?

What went well about your sales at your stall?

What might you change about your sales/stall for next time?

It would be great to see some of you ideas posted here on the class blog.

Creating an Pop Art a la Andy Warhol

We finally might have some time this week to continue on our exploration of Pop Art. Here is a link to a website where you can create Andy Warhol inspired pictures. All you need is a photo of you. We will be creating them in class this week.

A Letter for Michael

Dear Michael,

I like Scooby Doo, too! I used to be very scared of the cartoon tv show when I was a small child. Sometimes the ghosts gave me nightmares. Now I think it is funny.

What beach do you like going to? Do you go to Sumner or New Brighton beach? What kind of dog is Scooby Doo?

I don't watch tv because we don't have one! I watch movies on my computer and sometimes I watch tv programs on tvnz, a website.

From,
Mrs. Crow

A Note to Nell

Dear Nell,

Wow, you come from a really big family! Six kids!

How long have you been playing the violin for? Do you take lessons at school? I used to play the piano. In high school I played the clarinet. I sometimes play really simple songs on the guitar.

I have been to the USA, Japan, Australia, Greece, Turkey, The Dominican Republic, Bahamas and Mexico. I would really like to go to India, Thailand, Poland and Estonia. Have you been out of NZ?

I have met some very nice people at Fendalton School. It takes time to make friends but I have faith that I will make some good ones.

Thank you for being such a great student.

From,
Mrs. Crow

A Note to Samuel

Dear Samuel,

You are obviously a proud big brother. Do you help your mum with Anna at home?

I do speak another language. I can speak French but I do not get to use it very much. I went to an all french school when I was a student. My parents both spoke other languages at home. My dad is Polish and my mum is Estonian. We only spoke English at home.

I am not a fast runner. I like to jog slowly, for longer times. Are you excited for our sprint races at school next week?

I do not have any pets. We would like a dog or cat but because we go away in the weekends, it would be too hard.

From,
Mrs. Crow

Dear Ben Y

Dear Ben Y,

You wrote me a fabulous letter. Believe in yourself - you do know what to do.

It must have been very exciting going to North America and getting to go to Hawaii, Steamboat and Disney Land. Did anyone in your family go skiing while you were in Steamboat?

Your birthday is very soon - I hope you and Emily get to celebrate in style! What have you asked for as a a present?

I have so many things I like to do that it is hard to pick a favourite. I like to read and garden and go camping. I do NOT like doing the dishes! I do ride a bike. I have a mountain bike that I brought here to NZ from Canada. I ride all around town on it and like going to Bottle Lake and McLeans Island bike tracks.

Mrs. Crow

Konichiwa Yusuke

Dear Yusuke,

It must have been great going back to Japan for a holiday. Did you see lots of family? How long have you been here in NZ for? I love Japan. I lived in Chitose, Hokkaido for two years. I used to teach English for GEOS. I traveled from Tokyo to Hiroshima and then back up to Chitose by Shinkansen. I love going to the Onsen. Maruia Springs, the hot pools that I wrote about in my letter to you, are very Japanese. They are almost like the real thing!

Where do you go to Japanese school? Are there many people in your class?
What is your favourite Japanese food? I love everything...takoyaki, okonomiyaki, ramen, karage chicken, curry, sushi.....

I don't play too many games. We only own Scrabble, it is a word game, and I only get to play about once a year.

From,
Mrs. Crow

Salutations Payton

Dear Payton,

I do sing in a Choir. It is the World Music Choir. It is a community choir and we usually sing songs in other languages. They sound very pretty but I never know what we are singing about!

I don't have a favourite letter or number. If I have ever been asked about a number, I usually just pick a random one. Today my favourite number is 17.

I like to play tennis too. I also like Roald Dahl. Perhaps we should read one as a class. What do you thing? Where were you born in Africa? My dad was also born in Africa. In Uganda. His family was there after World War 2, before they got to move to Canada.

Thank you very much for you letter.

From,
Mrs. Crow

A Reply to Charlotte

Dear Charlotte,

You are an excellent little writer. You letter is both perfectly laid out and very well written.

Are you the middle sister? That must be hard sometimes! I like the colour blue too and I also like going for bike rides. I like going to McLeans Island and Bottle Lake to ride on the mountain bike tracks.

I was born in a hospital called Toronto General Hospital. Is is a very big hospital in downtown Toronto. There is a street in Toronto called University Avenue and there are 4 hospitals on the same road - Toronto General, Sick Childrens Hospital, Mount Sinai and St Margarets. It is a very busy street with lots of traffic moving in both directions.

You have lots of friends in our class. What class is Meg in?

From,
Mrs. Crow

Dear Piper

Dear Piper,

Thank you for your letter. You are right, I am having a lovely time getting to know everyone at Fendalton School. The staff and students are friendly and helpful.

I hope you had a happy birthday. I wonder what mum made you for your special dinner?
I like the colour purple too. My favourite colour is green, but purple is also very nice.

Roal Dahl is a pretty cool author. Last term I we read "The BFG". It is very funny and I really like the BFG. I have a family friend who is just like him.

Mrs. Crow

A Note to Flynn

Dear Flynn,

Thank you for your letter. It was very well written. You told me so much about yourself. I do hope your eye infection gets better. It did look much better today at school.

I have been to the hot springs at Tekapo. When we go camping down in Twizel I often ask if we can stop at Tekapo on the way home so I can enjoy a soak in the pools. Do you go there often? Your mum mentioned that you have a back in Twizel. Do you go there in the summer time over Christmas?

I look forward to Term 4 with you in Team 17.

From,
Mrs. Crow

Dear Finn

Dear Finn,

Your letter was amazing. Thank you for telling me so much about your family. It sounds like you had a great time on holidays in Wanaka. It wasn't so great that your stuff got tampered at the hot pools in Tekapo though.

I like to go skiing at Craigieburn and Mt Olympus. This year I got to got to Round Hill and Mt Dobson in the July school holidays. I really enjoyed going to those new places. I think the best bit was going in the hot pools after the day of skiing :)

Have you seen the Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief movie?

From,
Mrs. Crow

Saluations Emily

Dear Emily,

You letter is great. I am having a great time at Fendalton School so far. It is super to meet so many new people.

Roald Dahl is a very neat author. My dad read me James and the Giant Peach when I was very young and I can still remember it. You are very lucky to have gone to Disney Land when you went to America last year.

Happy Birthday (very soon!) to you. I hope you and your brother have a fabulous day.

I used to teach at Rolleston School. It is about a 30 minute drive from Fendalton, just out of town, past Hornby. You might have driven past it on your way down south.

From,
Mrs. Crow

A Note to Lily

Dear Lily,

You must be very busy after soon with all your extra curricular activities. It's great that you are learning to do so many things. It was the same for me when I was 7 years old!

How do you know your special friend from London?

My sister is younger than me by three years. I do miss my family very much. We talk on skype and on the phone as much as we can. The time difference between here and Canada makes it hard sometimes though, especially with work hours.

Having a bach to go to in the summer time sounds fabulous. You are a lucky lady.

Mrs. Crow

A Letter for Lilliana

Dear Lilliana,

Your letter was lovely. It shows what a kind and caring person you are. You asked so many questions! I don't even think I can answer them all :)

My holiday was great. I am looking forward to the Christmas holidays when I am going to Canada to visit my family. My favourite colour is green. What is yours? I don't play any team sports but I like to swim, ski and mountain bike. I also like to walk on the beach.

What else can you tell me about you, Lilliana? Tell me about a trip to the hot pools or the kind of books you like to read.

From,
Mrs. Crow

Dear Isabella

Hello Isabella,

I have learned so much about your from your letter. I, like you, am the oldest sister. My sister is three years younger than me. She is very, very tall. When we were younger people always thought she was the older one.

I don't like fishing very much. I have only tried it once but I would rather read a book or go for walks or do some work at our campsite than fish!

I was born at the Toronto General Hospital. It is a very big hospital in downtown Toronto. My name is Chessa because my dad's name is Chester and my mum's name is Kristina. My mum combined the names and came up with mine. Cool eh! I have never met anyone else with my name.

Thanks for all your help this week. It is super that you are in Team 17.

From,
Mrs. Crow

A Reply to Jack

Hello Jack,
Thanks for you letter. Your Mum and Dad sound like smart people! It is great that you and Flynn like maths and electrical things like them.
I really like Japanese food. I like sushi and okonomiyaki and ramen noodles. There is a restaurant in town called Samurai Bowl that is delicious. I also really like popcorn but that is just a snack.
Thank you for your thoughtful and helpful answers in class this week.

Mrs. Crow

A Letter for Mason

Dear Mason,

Thank you for your letter. It was great to find out about who is in your family.
To answer your question, I really like to go camping at Lake Poaka, near Twizel and I especially like to camp on the Opihi River near Temuka. I like taking walks on the stop bank that runs near the river.

It will be great to work with you this term in Team 17.

My FIrst Three Days at Fendalton

Hello to all the lovely students and parents of Team 17!

I am learning how to navigate the class blog. How exciting.

Thank you for a great first few days. It has been great getting to know the students, and quickly!

Practicing for sport was super today and the trip to the Ngaio Marsh Theater today was great. What did you think about the play? I thought is was funny and very well acted. The actors were excellent and their singing and musical skills were out of this world.

Please remember we have have Fendalton Friends Commonwealth Games tomorrow (Thursday). Students can dress in their country's colours. Remember to bring your sun hats, a full bottle of water and your sports shoes. You will be running around all day :)

I am contemplating putting newsletters and notes home as posts here as well as sending them home in hard copy. Please tell me what you think. Will the notices get read here?

See you all soon,

Chessa Crow

Earthquake

In the weekend there was an earthquake,it was really really FREAKY!I was scared because the house was still shaking a bit. When the earthquake had finished I went upstairs and slept in my mum and dads bed!In the morning I was scared to go downstairs. So we made breakfast and brought it upstairs and had a game of LIFE.After life, we went for a walk down to my grandmas house to see if she was all right. The only damage we had was...our brick wall fell down.

In the end everybody was OK!

Olivia Bs Earthquake Weekend

When the earthquake came I felt scared because the bed was moving and the door was slamming. I didn't know what it was. Granny tried to save me and she hurt her leg on the wall.
I have two dogs Austin and Winnie. They were not scared but Austin is scared of the wind more than the earthquake.
