Spelling Strategies

Here are some strategies to help you with your spelling:

www.spellingcity.com is a great way to manage and practise
words in various ways. Words can be added on a weekly basis.

- Write the word down, picture the word in your head. What
colour is it? Make it change colour. Now say each letter as you
see it in your head.

- Change the medium - write the words using chalk. Write on a
whiteboard. Trace it in sand. Use a paintbrush.

- Identify the ‘spelling rule’ in the words. Underline or highlight
the part with the rule e.g. patch , catch

- Look for smaller words within words.

- What other words do you know that are in the same family. If
you can spell and, you can spell sand, bland, grand.
